They are all the rage on social media: face roller and Gua Sha. But do they live up to the hype? And what does the facial massage with rose quartz, jade and co. actually do? Find out here what facial rollers and Gua Sha are for and what effects the various healing stones are said to have.
If you believe the current trend, the face roller is the absolute anti-ageing miracle. The pretty healing stones were already used centuries ago in Chinese medicine.
The facial massage promises many benefits for your skin:
- stimulates blood circulation and oxygen supply
- improves the elasticity of your skin
- releases tension in the facial muscles
- smoothes fine lines and wrinkles
- your skin looks fresher and rosier
- beauty products such as creams and serums penetrate the skin better
- gives your face more contours
So actually an anti-aging miracle? Yes and no. The facial massage definitely has a positive effect on your skin appearance. However, so that you can benefit from the many advantages, it is important that you use your roller regularly and consistently – preferably daily.
Difference between face roller and Gua Sha
The main difference is obvious: with the face roller you roll, with the Gua Sha you scrape. The positive effect is broadly the same – it depends on what feels more comfortable to you and is more fun.
It is fair to say, however, that facial massage with Gua Sha requires a little more practice, and the massage is generally more powerful and has a deeper effect.
Great results can be achieved by alternating the two beauty tools.
Rose quartz, jade, obsidian – which stone suits you?
Healing stones have always been said to have certain effects. Some people swear by them, others this is already too esoteric. The various stones from which face rollers and Gua Sha are made have the following meanings:
Rose quartz: The symbol of love. Rose quartz reduces stress and increases self-esteem and self-confidence. It also relieves headaches. Therefore, the rose quartz roller is particularly suitable for relaxing after a long day at work.
Jade: This stone stands for harmony, inner peace and wisdom. It is said to counteract electromagnetic radiation. Jade has a calming and anti-inflammatory effect – that is why the jade roller is especially recommended for impure skin.
Obsidian: Obsidian is said to counteract negative energies, help with blockages and fears and thus contribute to your physical and mental health. It releases tension and promotes healing processes.
Opal: Lightness, optimism, joie de vivre – opal is considered a lucky stone and is said to help you recognise and develop your full potential. Application with the opal roller gives you a radiant appearance.
Is it worth the purchase?
So you see – which face roller or Gua Sha you use is primarily a matter of taste. Whether you go purely by your visual preferences or choose the stone for its esoteric significance – that's entirely up to you.
One thing is for sure, the facial massage with roller and Gua Sha is soothing, helping you to look fresher in the morning and to relax the facial muscles in the evening. And your creams can also work better if they are gently massaged in – which in turn benefits the elasticity of your skin.
All in all, a useful beauty tool – provided you use facial roller and/or Gua Sha regularly.
