Secondary plant compounds, and thus the OPC in grape seed extract, exert their effect primarily as an antioxidant. The OPC effect mainly consists of capturing so-called “free radicals”. Free radicals are partly responsible for oxidative stress in our body and thus, among other things, for the ageing process, inflammatory processes, cell degeneration, and the “destruction” of normal molecules and structures, e.g. in tissues. Simply put, the combination of a free radical with a molecule creates a new molecule without beneficial function or with harmful effects for our body. Oxidative stress, since it involves oxygen, is often compared to a car rusting or a banana browning in the air.

The OPC effect as free radical scavenger means that OPC helps to slow down or prevent this oxidation. A plus for cell protection and a slowing of inflammatory processes, as well as fewer “non-functioning” molecules that weaken or destroy our cells and tissues.
