Iron is significantly involved in many metabolic processes in our organism. It is a component of oxygen-transporting proteins and is found both in the haemoglobin of the red blood cells and in the myoglobin of the muscles.
The supply of oxygen to the cells, the formation of blood, the function of muscles and much more thus depend on the supply of iron.
People with an increased need for iron, such as women (menstruation, pregnancy and breastfeeding) and athletes (increased basal metabolic rate), are recommended to consider additional supplementation of iron.
