Curl Expression products are made paraben-, alcohol-, sulfate- and silicone-free due to the perceived negative effects of those components and drying is the most prominent among them. Thus, parabens are known for their function to conserve the products; however, they could cause endocrine disruptors and even breast cancer. While alcohol is used in many products, it could cause irritation, dries out hair and takes out moisture so not having ethyl alcohol preserves moisture. Sulfates are known for the same negative effects in addition to eliminating part of the protective hydrolipidic layer naturally present on the scalp. The methods for obtaining certain sulphates are not very eco-friendly. Silicones are accused of suffocating the skin and the hair. They could cause rapid regreasing of hair and a dry feel to the skin. Silicones are not easily biodegradable in the environment, which means that they accumulate in the environment and pollute it.
