Castor oil has a naturally viscous consistency (it is the densest vegetable oil) and is obtained from the seeds of the Euphorbiaceae, Ricinus communis. In the West Indies it is known as carapate oil or Palma Christi oil and is traditionally recommended for external use to strengthen hair, nails and eyelashes.
