A true story
The story of a bearded beekeeper, his artistic girlfriend and their unwavering belief in the power of nature.
Burt Shavitz was a former photojournalist who left New York in the early 1980s in search of more nature and eventually became a beekeeper. He lived in Maine in a simple wooden house without running water or electricity.
It all started that summer in Maine when Burt picked up Roxanne Quimby, who would later become a company co-founder, while hitchhiking. Roxanne discovered the potential of the beeswax left over from honey production, and so the two formed a joint venture in 1984.
Burt continued to produce honey while Roxanne made wax candles by hand. In 1991, in addition to half a million candles, natural soaps and ointments were produced, cooked on a gas cooker. A lip balm, which became the company's trademark, was also added.
Burt's Bees is the number one lip care brand in the US and Canada and is successfully gaining ground around the world.
The reasons:
- the likeable, authentic story of Burt and Roxanne
- the outstanding product quality
- the natural ingredients
Burt longed for a simple life in nature in harmony with the seasons. We learned from Burt that in our fast-paced, digital world, it is important not to lose touch with nature. in the 80 years he was allowed to be on this World, he was an asset to us all.
