Caudalie – Natural skin care from the power of the vine
History
Mathilde Thomas: "Do you know that you are throwing away treasures?" This sentence changed my life. It marks my meeting with Professor Vercauteren during the 1993 grape harvest in the vineyards of Château Smith Haut Lafitte. He then revealed the amazing anti-oxidant powers of grapevine and grape Polyphenols. Caudalie was born. I founded Caudalie with my husband Bertrand in 1995, and we still run this wonderful company with the same passion and conviction as on the very first day. Every week I test dozens of textures, selecting the best ingredients, establishing what is most efficient for the skin.
Research
Caudalie employs its own research and formulation team in laboratories in France. Collaboration with Professor Vercauteren has made it possible to file extensive and globally recognized patents. The grapevine holds an inexhaustible wealth and is a daily source of inspiration. In addition to the patents, they draw many other exclusive and active substances from the grapevine, which are exceptional for the skin.
Professor Joseph Vercauteren
World-class specialist in Polyphenols and professor of pharmacognosy at the Pharmacy School in Montpellier, France; associated with the CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research). He has served as the scientific advisor to research section since Caudalie was founded.
Cosm-ethics
Every day, they deepen their "cosm’ethics": Caudalie prefers natural and environmentally friendly active ingredients and researches the “green” active substances of tomorrow. The extracts from the grapevine used for the patents come from vines in France (Bordeaux, Champagne, and Burgundy). Caudalie uses as few preservatives as possible (Ecocert certified). They are against animal testing.
The commitment to the environment also influences industrial development: the packaging is made from recycled paper. Whenever possible, they use plastic made from recycled material or bioplastic. Caudalie recycles what they can to reduce waste and the consumption of raw materials. They optimize packaging and transportation routes to reduce CO2 emissions.
“I wish to give back to the earth a little of what it gives us each day.”
Member of 1% for the planet, Caudalie donates 1% of its world revenue to NGOs to act and protect the regions of the world most threatened by deforestation and where biodiversity is in danger.
Caudalie's actions:
- 150'000 trees planted in the Andes Amazon.
- 200'000 trees planted in Brazil.
- Caudalie is taking part in protecting 36'000 hectares of natural forests and endangered animals (225 Asian elephants, 65 tigers and 130 orang-utans) on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia.
- Caudalie also contributes to supporting the Indian Shipibos tribe and others from the Pano stock, threatened by modernization and destruction of the Amazon.
- Finally, by the end of 2015, 200'000 trees will have been planted on the Isan plateau, one of the poorest regions of Thailand.
