The story of BIOEFFECT begins in 2001, three scientists with the same vision: to develop and produce clean, pure and side-effect free active ingredients for medical use.

The barley needed to produce EGF is grown in a 2200 square metre greenhouse, in which optimal conditions prevail. At temperatures between 16 and 20 degrees Celsius, the young plants grow in bacteria-free volcanic ash and are irrigated with clean Icelandic spring water. One million kilowatt hours of electricity and 40,000 tons of hot water are needed annually to operate the greenhouse. If the energy came from conventional sources, the atmosphere would be polluted with 3800 tons of carbon dioxide annually. Since BIOEFFECT uses only renewable geothermal energy, the CO2 balance is negative, which in turn has a positive effect on the environment.

The EGF protein, which is obtained with green biotechnology, is the basis of all skin care products of the BIOEFFECT series.
